Meet Dr. Mahjour
Dr. Faranak Mahjour obtained her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Shahid Beheshti (National) University School of Dentistry, a prestigious dental school in Tehran, Iran. After two years of practice and research, she entered into the Ph.D. program in Oral Biology at Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine with a fellowship award, which allowed her the opportunity to fulfill her interest in research and science. During her PhD, her research centered on oral cancer microenvironment, characterizing signaling pathways, and therapeutic strategies to address oral cancer, both in vivo and in vitro.
Dr. Mahjour has done numerous oral and poster presentations at scientific dental meetings and had received several awards, including, first place in the American Association of Dental Research (AADR) – Boston chapter for two consecutive years and first Place in Russek Student Achievement Award.
To peruse her passion in endodontics, she enrolled in the endodontic residency program at the State University of New York at Buffalo. She gained advanced training in complicated root canal treatment and micro preapical surgery using latest advanced technologies. During her residency, she was featured as Resident Spotlight in American Association of Endodontists (AAE) newsletter.
Dr. Mahjour has more than 15 peer-reviewed articles and has publication in high impact journals like Journal of Endodontics, and Journal of Dental Research and Nature-Oncogenesis Journal.
Dr. Mahjour is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics. She practiced in Fairfax County in Northern Virginia before relocating to Lynchburg. She is dedicated to providing the highest quality of care to patients utilizing evidence-based dentistry.
Dr. Mahjour enjoys spending time with her husband, family and friends. She also enjoys playing tennis, skiing, camping, traveling and exploring new cultures.
